Dealing
Each player is dealt 13 cards from a 52 card deck by the computer.
Passing Cards
Before any cards are played, each player chooses 3 cards they do not want and passes them to another player.
- In Round 1 players pass to the left
- In Round 2 players pass to the right
- In Round 3 players pass across from them
- In Round 4 players don’t pass
- Repeat…
Play Rules
In Hearts, play proceeds clockwise, and thus, each player must play a card until four cards are on the table (This group of 4 cards is known as a “Trick.”)
Leading a Suit
The suit of the first card played in each trick is the lead suit, and the other three players MUST play a card of this suit unless they have none remaining. If they have none remaining they may play a card from any suit.
Taking Tricks
Whoever played the highest card of the lead suit in a trick takes that “trick”. If there were any Hearts or the Queen of Spades in this trick they take those points.
The First Trick:
The first card played in a game of Hearts must be the 2 of Clubs. During the first trick no cards that have any point value (Hearts, or Queen of Spades) may be played unless no other card is available.
After the First Trick:
After the first trick, the person who won the previous trick must choose another card to lead establishing the new lead suit..
Leading Hearts
Hearts may not be lead until a Heart has been played in a previous trick. (This happens as a result of a player running out of the lead suit in a previous trick, and thus playing a heart. Or if the player choosing the lead suit has , or having nothing but hearts left to play).
Basic scoring
- A total of 26 points can be earned each game.
- Each Heart won in a trick costs 1 point
- Winning the Queen of Spades in a trick costs 13 points
- You do NOT want to earn points.
Shooting the Moon
If a player, in a single round, takes every Heart and the Queen of Spades, for a total of 26 points, this will be considered Shooting the Moon. In this case, the player subtracts 26 points from their score, instead of adding 26.
Point to Gem Conversions
During each round of QQ Hearts you earn gems based on the following formula.
Total Points Other People Took - 3 * Points You Took This Round = your gems earned
When you shoot the moon, you earn 78 gems, while all other players lose 26 gems.
Single Round Rooms:
In Single Round Rooms, the player that has earned the FEWEST points at the end of one round is the winner.
100 Points Rooms:
In 100 Points Rooms, games can last multiple rounds, and the first player to reach 100 points loses. Gems are awarded only once any played reached 100 points.
